Book Launch and Talks - Through Fire and Water

  • Charles Hastings Education Centre Charles Hastings Way Worcester, England United Kingdom (map)
Mark Houghton has written a fabulous biography of his father, the surgeon Mr. Paul Houghton. It is an extraordinary story of faith, of medical affairs, and of the Royal Navy in wartime.
— Captain Peter Hore

Extraordinary times require ordinary people

Torpedoed and trapped in a sinking ship, Paul Houghton was one of the colourful characters of the Malta convoys, saving the lives at sea of two fighting admirals and becoming the first Fleet Surgeon of the Royal Navy. He was also consultant surgeon at the former Worcester Royal Infirmary.

During the 80th anniversary year of the end of the Second World War, his son, Dr Mark Houghton is launching his book ‘Through Fire and Water’ with talks and book signing on Saturday 12 April 2025 at Charles Hastings Education Centre.
